On Friday morning, a developer broke ground on a new neighborhood called Simmons Ridge, off Carothers Parkway, just south of the Murfreesboro Road Exit on I-65.
For Simmons Ridge Joint Venture, which has owned the land since 2003, and the City of Franklin, which has been working to provide more affordable housing, it was a long time coming.
The subdivision is at 4408 Carothers Road.
Prices will be in the $280s and up for the 408 units that will range from 1,569 to 1,950 square feet. Franklin REALTORS will be selling the single-family and town homes.
Jay Franks, with Simmons Ridge and husband to Marcia Franks of Franklin Realtors, expects the five phase build-out to take five years, with the first phase being complete much sooner. Construction will begin in a few weeks.
The traditionally styled homes will be a modern interpretation of Southern living at its best. The homes will all have front porches. Some models will also have screened back porches. All homes will have hardwood floors, granite in the kitchens and stainless steel appliances.
The healthy living neighborhood will have a series of parks and a great swimming facility. Walking trails will be throughout the new community.
“The property is blessed with many huge century old trees that makes the property visually awesome,” said Marcia Franks with Franklin REALTORS.
“Congratulations on a great day, congratulations to the developer and we look forward to making this work,” Franklin Mayor Ken Moore said at the ground breaking ceremony.
Several important members of the city of Franklin government were present for the ceremony and stayed for the early lunch catered by Puckett’s.
In addition to the mayor, Vice-Mayor Brandy Blanton, Alderman Mike Skinner, and Steve Murray of the Franklin Housing Commission were present.
